Happy New Year! — 2016 Year In Review

During the holiday season, our thoughts turn gratefully to those who have made our success possible. It is in this spirit that we say thank you and best wishes for the New Year!

Throughout the 2016 year we were able to be apart of some impressive magazines. Down below are our top 2016 featured magazine editorials. newmoonrugs_mentions

New Moon Rugs debuted a new pillow collection, The Mesa Collection.

Saddle up and drift out to the American Southwest with our vibrant palette of earth tones and desert hues inspired by traditional Navajo motifs. As always, New Moon’s Mesa rugs combine superior quality with modern design.

New Moon’s, Mesa Collection was featured in both, Mountain Living and Western Art & Architecture magazines. magazine-book-mockup

In November we hosted Mario López-Cordero, the Senior Editor of the home decorating and interior design magazine, VERANDA, at an exclusive event in our newly-expanded showroom. Mario López-Cordero writes about design, travel, fashion and culture. His work has appeared in New York Travel + Leisure and Metropolitan Home.

This event offered a chance for guests to purchase furniture, rugs and accessories from our September Fall Sale. The evening consisted of mingling with the Kurtz family and Mario, live music, and fun fall cocktails paired with delicious hors d’oeuvres.

Lead designer, Josephine Kurtz, and her sister, Erika Kurtz, joined Mario for an inspirational interior design focused Q&A session. The Q&A gave a personal look into Mario’s experience as an editor and his thoughts on furniture design trends.

Guests also experienced a first-ever book-signing of Mario’s new book, VERANDA Retreats.

New Moon’s Journey to Nepal

Since my father began New Moon back in 1993, Nepal has always held a special place in our hearts. Our almost 25 years of experience spending time in Nepal and cultivating our rug line has allowed us to create the beautifully crafted, high-quality rugs our brand is known for, while continuing to stay a company that is socially and environmentally responsible. That’s the New Moon Difference.
In November, I took a trip (with my daughter Isabel!) to visit our production facility in Nepal. It was an inspiring and refreshing reminder of the tradition and craftsmanship our brand was founded on. From the women in our workshop skillfully perfecting each weave, to the office staff ensuring quality and precision, every aspect made me so proud to be a part of this process.
Our workshop and employees in Nepal are what truly set us apart from other rug makers and I’m excited to share a brief peek into the process with you! Take a look at how we carry forward the thread of one of mankind’s oldest art forms with modern designs grounded in Nepali tradition.

Introducing The Casablanca Collection. This new fine rug collection takes inspiration from Moorish architecture with overlapping patterns and a kaleidoscopic play on light.

In this new collection, we’ve blended colors and materials to call to mind a disappearing world of shimmering effects. Geometry, ornamentation and shadings of color— from warm to cool—echo the materials and style of this fabulous region.

Feel The Desert Heat With New Moon’s Mesa Collection

Bring your dream luxury lodge to life with the Mesa Collection rugs and pillows.

Saddle up and drift out to the American Southwest with our vibrant palette of earth tones and desert hues inspired by traditional Navajo motifs. As always, New Moon’s Mesa rugs combine superior quality with modern design.

Each rug is made with fine Tibetan wool. Soft pile weave replaces the traditional flat weave of typical Navajo-inspired carpets. We use a cross-weaving technique, creating a flexible but virtually unbreakable foundation. And while the vibrancy of most rugs dull over time, New Moon rugs grow more beautiful with the passing years, because we don’t wash our rugs with harsh chemicals like most others.

For our Mesa Pillows we’ve taken some of our most popular Southwestern inspired rug designs and translated them onto our pillow designs. They are all hand-screen printed on hand-woven linen. Our pillows are then finished with contrast piping and a solid reverse. Each pillow measures 22″ by 22″ inches and comes stuffed with a feather/down insert.

GoodWeave Ensures Moral Rug Making Standards

New_Moon_eblast_June_Brights_IMAGES_HeaderAs humanitarian rug designers and founding members of the non-profit global initiative called GoodWeave, we believe that no rug should be made using illegal child labor.

With New Moon, every rug is given the GoodWeave stamp—it’s our promise that your rug has been manufactured ethically, without the use of child labor. We’re committed to creating moral working standards and moving one step closer to a world without illegal child labor.

Providing a Better Future for Families in Nepal

Meet the faces behind New Moon’s production! Our factory, located in Nepal, provides safe and stable employment opportunities for a predominantly female staff. Working outside the home enables these women to support their families financially and contribute to the strengthening of the struggling economy of Nepal. While the women are working, we also provide daycare for the children of our employees. And when the kids are of school age, we work with the mothers to ensure that their children receive funding for quality education.

As founding members of GoodWeave we are on the front lines, creating a positive and stable environment for our weavers and their families to flourish.
