For the first time in 25 years Wilmington artist & renonwn rug designer, John Kurtz, had an Art Exhibition on Friday, May 21st. It was a lot of hard work to clear all of the rugs & existing furniture in the New Moon Rug gallery - but with a lot of help & hardwork the gallery was ready for Friday night's VIP event.
Pictures of the team emptying the Gallery:

* Beginning of the day - majority of rugs still in place

* Almost there - just a few more things to go...

* No more rugs - the paintings begin coming in!
Starting on Monday we worked right up to 5pm on Friday to get the Gallery ready for the show. It was a labor of love & well worth it, with an awesome turnout for the event. Even Congressman Castle made an appearance! People were able to see the show, mingle with friends & enjoy great food & drinks!

Though the art exhibit is officially over - we have left the majority of John's pieces up on display. So feel free to stop into the gallery at 1901 Delaware Ave in Wilmington to check them out!

There is a problem with so many choices, all glamorous and expensively advertised-- trying to convince you they are the perfect rug.
How do you find real value anymore?
We have an easy way to cut through all the chatter.
New Moon has a value system that’s pretty simple to measure. And it results in the best rugs being made.
1. No child or other exploitative labor. That’s a no- brainer, but with everything being outsourced nowadays you’d be surprised how little control other companies have over their subcontractors.
2. The only way to weave a rug- “CROSSED” construction. That’s easy- you can eliminate about 90% of everything coming out of Nepal. You’d be surprised how most rugs are made. Just ask, “Is it ‘Crossed’ weaving?’’
3. The best materials- 100% best grade wool from Tibet, handspun. That eliminates the majority of other rugs from Nepal. Ask, “Is it handspun, is it all Tibetan wool”?
4. Is it chemically washed? That eliminates probably 95% of all productions. Chemical washes leave a luster, but at the expense of compromising the strength and lanolin content of the rug.
5. Pile height- people marvel at the low profile of New Moon rugs, and the density of the weave. That is achieved only by pounding the knots down to pack them so tightly that we can have the tightest weave, and the lowest profile in the industry. If you don’t pound down hard, you can’t have a truly low pile height or you’ll expose the foundation between the rows of knots. New Moon has the densest weave, and most supple and refined look of all Tibetan-knotted rugs. That’s easy- we just eliminated all of the competition.
6. We don’t design our rugs on a computer. If you want the cookie cutter, color-it-yourself wallpaper for the floor, we’re not for you. Each of our rugs is a hand-painted original, hand-graphed- and it shows. You can always tell a New Moon rug… We make them from the heart out.
7. Easy…done.
